Using Patterns

 

1. Open Adobe Photoshop.  Open up your picture.

I'm using a penguin I drew a long time ago. ^^

 

 

2. Make a new layer.

 

3. Click on the paint bucket icon () and where it says Fill, click on the arrow and change it to pattern.

 

4. If you already made a pattern or like one of the ones they have, go here, click on the arrow and find the pattern:

 

 

  If not, right click and copy one of these:

 

   

 

 

...and paste it into a new file.  Click on Edit--Define Pattern and name it.  Then go here:

 

 

and click on it.

 

 

5. Click on the eye next to your first layer so it disappears.  Click on the canvas so the pattern fills it.  Click the eye on the first layer again so it reappears and the pattern is over it.

 

 

6. Now you can change the opacity of the second layer.  You can do a lot with patterns.  Have fun!  Here is mine:
