STEP 1
Open Paint. (start- all programs- accessories- paint) Paste in whatever picture you want to add a transparent box to.
STEP 2
This is the most crucial step. Click on Image at the top and make sure Draw Opaque is unchecked. (If it's checked, just click to uncheck it.)
STEP 3
Open Microsoft Word. Click on Insert- Picture- Autoshapes. Click on the second button when this button bar pops up. Although you can use any shape you want, for the tutorial I'm using a rectangle.

STEP 4
Click and drag your mouse on the white page to create the shape. Double-click on it. Click on the arrow next to Color, then click on Fill Effects- Pattern. Use any one you want, I'm using the second one. Change the foreground color to something, then click OK, and OK.
STEP 5
Copy and paste the box into Paint and move it where you want it.
