Contouring is, to put it in a nutshell, shadowing and highlighting with makeup to make the most of your best, and worst, features. It's so simple and is used by many make-up artists to improve face shape.
So how do I do it?
- First find your best bits and your worst. For example I would say I don't like my nose and lips but like my brows and cheek bones. See?
- Think about why you don't like these things. Lets look at my examples again. To me my nose is too wide and my cupids bow to flat. Then say to yourself: How can I change this? Well we are going to take two 'highlighters' (I use shadow but you can use highlighter if you want), one dark and one light. Here are my skintone rules:
| Skin Color | Highlight | Shadow |
| Fair / Tanned | Cream | Light Brown |
| Olive / Dark | Beige / Light Brown | Coffee / Dark Brown |
Learn the rules. Shadows do what the name suggests, shadow areas. They make other parts of the features seem more pronounced. Highlights highlight the bit that is made pronounced with the shadow. Almost drawing attention to the good bits.
How do I make...
My nose smaller?
By apply shadow to the sides and highlight down the middle (the smallest part of your nose).
My lips rounder?
By applying highlighter to the areas around the corner of your lips and shadow in the middle.
My eyes bigger?
By applying highlight in the inside corners and just below the brow.
I hope this helped you guys!
